Hi! I’m Gavin

The fitness industry is broken, and it is my mission to fix it...

Back in the day, I was a trainer, just like you.  I enjoyed what I did.  I made decent money.  But I was a slave to the gym. I was on the hamster wheel of trading time for money. And I couldn’t create the lifestyle I wanted for myself.

I knew I had to move online, and start shifting my business model. But I didn’t know how.

I discovered how to optimize

And that’s when I hired a business coach.  Three coaches, to be exact.  Over four years.

And damn. The second I invested in myself, my business started to grow. I was earning 6-figures. And I could travel the world like a modern day Christopher Columbus.

Then I decided to share my secrets

You see…when you strap on the Nike’s, and start training….they don’t tell you….you’re also becoming an entrepreneur.  And building your business is the bigger challenge.

I’ve been there. In the trenches. And now, I’m on the other side of it, transforming the fitness industry, and helping other strength coaches create the life of their dreams.

They say business isn't personal, but I beg to differ

Most days, you can find me sucking back the fresh air, walking around my neighbourhood…or chilling on the front porch with my stunner-of-a-wife Kelly, and our goofball cat, Harv-man.

I am known for my imposing figure (I clock in at 6’7”), but I’m really just a big teddy bear, once you get to know me.

People often refer to me as "the hockey guy," but I like to call myself a "recovering bro."

I enjoy serving the world by helping shift peoples’ perspective, and getting them to see things in a new light.

When I’m not busy attempting to save the fitness industry, you can find me tackling DIY projects in my 100 year old house.

The things I am most passionate about in life are personal development, my little family, and squeezing as much juice as I can out of this thing we call life.

My hockey story

How I blew my chance at becoming an NHL hockey legend

Have you ever been so close to getting something you wanted….and then let it slip through your fingers?  That was my hockey career.  And let me tell you.  I’ve never again let the words “what if?” remain unanswered.

You see…when I was a little tike, I dreamed of making it big in the NHL. I was pretty good, too.

And by the time I was 18-years old, I had climbed the ladder of success, and was sitting pretty as the backup goalie with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Hockey League.

My passion for the game was the fire that fuelled me. But as any athlete will tell you, the better you get, the less fun you have. The pressure to perform was immense. And with a girlfriend back home, and a weak mental fortitude, I was losing focus.

The game that changed my life

On this particular November night, we were playing a road game in Spokane, Washington against the lowly Chiefs.

The Chiefs were atrocious that year, so there wasn’t much to get excited about. I felt confident to the point of cockiness, like I was owed something more than I was getting.

It was the third period, and we were up 3-1.

Then it happened. A guy named Judd Blackwater, came down the sideboards on my right.  And before I knew it, the puck was off his stick.

I found myself crumpled by my post, trying to make up for the fact I had no idea the shot was coming. I prayed I had somehow held it between my pads.

Then I saw his arms go in the air with a surprised look on his face.

Then I heard the goal horn.  Then I heard the roar of the crowd. That was the exact moment when I thought...(possibly out loud):

"This is it for me. I'm done."

The more I tried to forget about the goal and that demonizing thought, the more it consumed me.  And by the end of the night, we were walking out of the arena, with a loss under our belts.

The fight that ended it all

After that game, our team hit a 10-game losing streak.  And by New Years Eve, I was a ticking time-bomb.

We were set to play the Portland Winterhawks, and I was lacing up with something to prove. We were down 6-2, and when the fists started to fly in a full-out line brawl...

I decided to actively pursue a fight, attempting to pull an opposing player off my teammate.

A few days later, with a broken nose, and a slight concussion, my coach let me know I had been traded to the Lethbridge Hurricanes, where my hopes and dreams of “making it big” died a slow and painful death.

The life lesson I will never forget

Without even knowing it until recently, hockey has taught me everything I now know to be true in life.  How you do one thing is how you do everything.  And this experience has inspired me to never lose focus on what I want out of life.

The pain of losing something I was so close to, will continue to drive me, until I die.

Let the chips fall where they may, but I never want to leave myself wondering “what if?” again.
